Hello,

I am new here and I have a question on behalf of a young lady I know. I am a high school teacher. One of my former students who is now 17 was recently kicked out of her home by her father. I don't know all the particulars. I personally believe that there is more to the story and her own part in the current situation, but it is speculation on my part. Anyway, she is was told by her father to get out, so she ran with it. She has been staying with friends, and I believe that we have begun helping her work out a way to live with her grandparents at least until she is 18 (assuming she and her father do not reconcile). My question is about whether the father has the right in the first place to kick his daughter out, if that is in fact what happened.

Thanks.
